You have been invited for Ruby Rose's birthday party!

The party will be held at the house Ruby lives in over in the Gaze district. [ There's an address included, or just general directions, along with the time the party starts. ] Feel free to dress up or not - you know Ruby won't mind either way. You're also free to bring a present if you want to. If you want to bring one, but you're having trouble thinking of what to get her, you can ask me, I guess.

Let's do our best to make it fun for Ruby. She's had a really crappy time around this time last year, and I know she would love to be surrounded by her friends.

Thanks for the invite. Wu's opening the Raccoon Room that night so we probably can't make it. What kind of food does Ruby like best? I'll try and drop by earlier in the day to drop something off.

It's fine, I completely understand. You should take Wu to drop by here some other day. I can't promise there will be any cake left though. Ruby's probably going to devour all the party food until there's nothing but a black void left in the house. I'll take her over to the Raccoon Room someday as well.. though it's more likely that she'll drag me. [ Honestly. ]

As for food, she really isn't picky. Are you sure you have time for that though? I imagine you're probably helping out Wu with preparations.

I am, but if we're going to avoid you falling into a black hole and having all your furniture eaten, seems like you're going to need the extra food. It's fine.

Anyway, half my job that day is to make sure Wu takes a break and eats. I've never seen him like this. He wasn't even like this before his coronation.

We extended the bar that was already here so that it wraps around. There's a corner to it, and the end corner only fits two people.

Think Ruby likes steamed buns?

Wow, if I didn't know better, I'd almost think you were trying to tell me something here, mister Mako. [ With your introvert corner and all that. She sees you, pal. She will come hang out with you there one day. ]

And I think she'd like those? I've never had them myself, but I know of them. It seems like the sort of thing she'd enjoy. Is that what you've been making for Wu too?

If you like rolls, they're like that but softer and full of stuff, so they're actually a lot better than rolls. Rolls suck in comparison.

Wu loves them, but he's been living off hot pot recently.

[ There's a noticable pause - or well, longer than the previous ones - before this message rolls in. ]

Is this a bad moment to admit that there's just a lot I've never eaten?

[ Sorry, Mako, she's way too much part of the 1% for this.. which is also what turned her living-alone-in-Deerington diet into a total mess since she had no idea what to eat or how to cook and just ate way too much cereal.. Why don't you compare it to lobster, she'd understand that one. ]

No. You wouldn't believe the weird food Wu made me try in Republic City. Rich people eat really strange food.

[ He has the opposite problem from Ange, unknowingly, and yet a similar one: Mako's eaten a lot of things from a lot of places, but it was mostly simple stuff that got thrown away. Fancy stuff like lobstercrab was far beyond him for most of his life. ]

Well, Asami is practical, mostly, and she's also filthy rich—Mako just kind of figured he and Ange had a lot in common because of a shared variety of upbringing, and then here she goes, upending all of that, and also he just kind of insulted rich people but she's agreeing with him, so it can't be... that bad...

There is a long, long pause before his next message. ]

How do you feel about fritters?

Never heard of them.

But I am well ready to get started on an exciting new fritter adventure.

[ It's a little more playful than she'd usually be, because that sure was an obvious pause, and Ange can only imagine what went through Mako's head just now.

.. though it's not like she wants the other to feel bad, so she figures she ought to clarify things at least a little bit here. Just in case. She cares too much about Mako's feelings to not make sure she didn't just make him feel bad. ]

Also, don't worry. I think rich people are the worst. Nothing you could say about them could possibly ever personally insult me.

I'm actually going to get Wu to shepherd you through that one. He loves Fritters. That's why Fritter is named what she is.

I'm totally desensitized to Ruby ever since she shoved me into a photobooth and refused to let me out until she got to take embarrassing photos together with me.

So that's different.

Guess I'm desensitized to Wu after he dragged me with him to fancy rich people events for three years straight.

I'll chaperone. Promise.
