He has no idea what David wants from him, why he keeps saying things like this. The cynical part of him makes a suggestion: David wants something. Why else would he be saying things like that? ]

[ He's... flirting. With Mako. Purposefully. Maybe he's just a flirty person, like Wu? Or maybe this is an Asami situation where Mako is being flirted with by someone very interesting and pretty cool and has no idea how to respond to it. He'd laid it on thick, back then, tried everything he could to make things work with a person who could've been a ticket out.

Even if that was a callous way to look at it. Mako's better, now.

He doesn't know, is the problem. He doesn't know why David is doing this, or what he wants, or what he expects out of Mako. It has to be something. If there is one thing Mako has learned in all his years, it's that there's always an angle. Sometimes you just have to work a little harder to see it. ]

[ The length between these replies is still pretty long as Mako types and re-types and hopes that he doesn't accidentally send it before he figures out exactly what to say, here. A lot of thought and a lot of wrestling over his Fluid went into this conversation, and Mako still isn't a hundred percent sure where he stands, but Korra is right: this is a dream, and he may as well give it a try. ]

But I haven't been on a date with a guy before, and it's not really something that's talked about at home, especially the part of the city I grew up in. Korra is just starting to change that back home.

It can be scary, opening yourself up to something like this. I know. My world is not the worst about it, not when I’m from. But it’s still bad. There’s still hatred and judgement. I kept my certainty to myself for a long time, afraid of what it made me.

I guess what I’m saying is that I get it, and I can absolutely be patient. If it turns out poorly, if you don’t like the whole thing, then we’ll still be friends. This is just trying something, I guess.
